Transfer Text Messges to new Windows Phone

had lumia 920 going out ~ couldn't service, battery dying, 5 years old.

got new hp elite x3 > love it! > glad didn't have go android or iphone.

reinstalled new apps , photos, contacts email synced fine.

did not old text messages.

i apparently did not have area backed up.

the old phone still works in wifi.

any way manually transfer or copy off old text messages without having cell service?

it "intermittently" working when had sim card in number transferred new hp phone.

i (if fits) install sim (temporarily) wife's phone if answer.

try turning on backup text messages tap backup , retrieve them on new phone
