SUMIF formula returning 0 for one criteria, but all other SUMIF - Microsoft Community

i'll apologise in advance, i'm basic excel user having difficulties simple formula.

i have worksheet documents commission both permanent , freelance staff. run sumif formula provide total per person per month figure. working 4 named staff members freelance box returns 0 , despite trawling internet have no idea how fix it!

this example of formula working =sumif(b10:b73, "hamada", f10:f73) formula not working =sumif(b10:b73, "freelance", f9:f73).

it had worked in previous worksheet can't understand why it's not working now. suggestions grateful?

scroll down b column until find first freelance

let's ion b12

in convenient empty cell type =b12="freelance"

if false b12 may contain word space after it.
