Office Error Code 30100-## and up - Part 4 of 3 - Microsoft Community

technical level : intermediate

summary

part of design of “new , improved” <heavy sarcasm> office 365/2013 more “user friendly”.  i understand effort sense since users not technically inclined (no surprise) don’t want deal technical issues (i not totally in support of way ms did it).  ms took few approaches “user friendliness”:

1 - “click-to-run” (ctr) “virtual computer” installation

2 - new code 0-# , code 300##-## / "something went wrong ..." error messages

3 - eliminating access local install version office 2013

unfortunately, ms did not bother make available documentation many of these new error codes.  so, @ least, can collect answers forum identifying things have worked others. of fixes “voodoo”, not fix, coincidentally trigger real fix in background.

  • 2 people replied had free hard drive space on small devices. 1 person reported problem when had 1.5 gb free. other reported problem fixed after had freed approx 5gb.

  • that makes sense couple of reasons.

  • one last time checked, installation file 1.5 2 gb, depending on specific office bundle downloading.

  • windows update changing downloading many relatively small specific update files, fewer, larger system updates.  update process tends use more temp hd space in past.

  • another "traditionally" windows got "flaky" when thought did not have "enough" free space on hd.  in past (when hd's smaller today) there seemed hard coded limit in windows requiring 10% freespace, don't know if still applies (i think has been removed).  not long ago lead error messages when there multiple gb of free space.  depending on browser using, can have built in limits on space used. example, ie 11 still has option limit space used in tools menu > internet options command > browser history settings... button > temporary internet files tab > disk space use. there radio button adjust value.  if saving location, run limit.  if save other location, ie "downloads" folder, setting should not issue.

  • if have it, can use tool (free) "ccleaner" free space. have been using years no problem, others have reported issues.

  • otherwise can use tool ships windows, "disk cleanup". here couple of articles on how use it:

    <snip>

    i’ve built new computer.  installed win7 ultimate x64, , trying install office h&s 2010 - installs ok, accepts product key (which brand new 3-license fpp) , away goes.

    on first run asks me how want activate it, told on internet, sits there minute , gives me 0x80070005 error, after querying error code on command prompt i’m being told “access denied” error.

    so figured ok, i’ll phone , way.  except when select country (uk) or other dropdown box no phone number, no product installation id, , activation code boxes greyed out.

    i had google around, found ms hotfix (fixit 50485), tried, still no luck.

    update:  tried uninstalling, cleaning registry , remnant files, restarting , re-installing, didn’t work.

    also tried installing 64-bit edition in case 32-bit installer package corrupt on disc, no joy.

    then tried command-line prompts manually enter license key , activate, , same error pops up.....

    </snip>

    <snip>

    i’ve solved mine!

    i downloaded activation toolkit , asked check on license details. expected, told me licensing details corrupt. ran on mother’s machine , fine. has same spec unit same software.... except hard drive 2tb unit, mine 3tb. logical difference software ‘unlocks’ tb on mine.

    so, full re-install on 2tb hard drive identical before apart not needed unlocker software, , hey presto, working.

    </snip>

    <snip>

    ‘i having exact same problem.  i installed on 3 computers, , fine months, until day or ago.  then 1 of computers had error.

    for reason, not activate automatically (and activate telephone wasn’t selectable) , if tried activate, i’d error.  tried de-activating license on microsoft web site , re-activating.  even tried re-installing.  same error.

    if click start, open 1 of office applications right-clicking , selecting “run administrator”, activate automatically (without error...).  then after, close application according directions , re-open.  all ok.

    keep in mind, happened on 1 of computers, , on computer happened to, logged in administrator privileges.  so have no idea why did did, apparently, if office somehow blows it’s license information up, can’t re-activate automatically without running administrator (even if account trying activate has administrator privileges).
