Opening an excel file - Microsoft Community

office-365 subscriber.  have had no problems excel until now.  week ago, problem started , reproducible.   if have excel active in task bar, , double click .xlsx file on desktop, loads excel, have click task bar icon bring program on screen.  have not had last 2 years, popped on screen automatically.  new "feature", or have configuration option wrong.  have checked of configuration options, , have run "repair" control panel.  neither helped.

mean excel opens minimized , stays in task bar. can try following , let know feedback -

1. please c:\users\user_name\appdata\roaming\microsoft\excel (replace user name user name, can directly reach here copy , pasting following without quotes in explorer address bar - "%appdata%\microsoft\excel") , see if contains few files / folders. move files other location (i.e create backup of files / folders , delete files / folders here). hence, make excel folder blank.

open excel , see if problem disappears or not.

note - if above path not applicable installation, need find xlstart path. excel folder contains xlstart folder in (in case, xlstart path not in appdata)
1. open excel
2. alt+f11
3. if immediate window not visible, type ctrl+g. same can accessed through view > immediate window
4. type "? application.startuppath" without quotes , press enter
5. have path below.

2. sometimes, add-ins can cause problems. determine, if add-in problem start application in safe mode , see if problem has gone away.

start in safe mode -

hold ctrl key , click on application icon , don't release ctrl key till asks safe mode confirmation.

if yes, start application , disable add-ins 1 one , start application again every time disable add-in determine culprit add-in.
