Is there not an option to sync an email address as a user name? - Microsoft Community

split thread.

and option many users?  what new user?  is there not option sync email address user name?

hello,

this can achieved if want change users in organisation.

azure ad connect it. however, option comes when installing first time.

am assuming have configured azure ad connect sync users active directory on premise.

in order achieve this, have remove azure ad connect , have re-install , while reinstalling, instead of selecting express settings, have choose advanced options in azure ad connect , follow onscreen instructions.

in middle, come accross below screen,

using option, able change it.

but keep in mind microsoft not recommend change default username.

i copying part of microsoft article reference https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/connect/active-directory-aadconnect-user-signin

selecting attribute user principal name in azure ad

the attribute userprincipalname attribute users use when sign in azure ad , office 365. should verify domains (also known upn suffixes) used in azure ad before users synchronized.+

we recommend keep default attribute userprincipalname. if attribute nonroutable , can't verified, it's possible select attribute (email, example) attribute holds sign-in id. known alternate id. alternate id attribute value must follow rfc 822 standard. can use alternate id both password sso , federation sso sign-in solution

for more info, please go through article https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/connect/active-directory-aadconnect-user-signin
