could microsoft please explain reason / thought behind nonsense limitation metro ie11 works when set default browser? i've thought legal actions eu vs. microsoft regarding ie had no grounds since there choice. now, years later, leaves no choice tablet users. doesn't make sense.

as metro ie start menu shortcut gets replaced desktop counterpart when ie not default, i've tried tweak manually creating shortcut metro ie uwp app located in c:\windows\explorer.exe shell:::{4234d49b-0245-4df3-b780-3893943456e1} . 1 works fine long ie default, doesn't start if not - metro ie gets deactivated in case. stupid , ridiculous microsoft!

this may have browser settings. try checking internet options. open internet explorer, go settings, , select internet options, click programs. under opening internet explorer, change drop-down menu let internet explorer decide, , there should no check mark in open internet explorer tiles on desktop. after that, click apply, ok.

reboot computer after applying changes on internet explorer. if still same, can reset internet explorer settings. may refer article: change or reset internet explorer settings.

get result.
