Empty Windows.old folders not removable - Microsoft Community

on insider build (currently 17040, issue older) have windows.old, windows.old(1), ... windows.old(4).  system disk cleanup has been done (and after each new build don't have disk space).  space reclaimed on cleanup expected.  these windows.old folders empty, or @ least appear so.

if attempt manually delete of them popup saying "this folder no longer on c: drive....."

what's going on these folders?  apparently have adequate permission manage them.  ideas?

happens if run "rd /s /q \\?\c:\windows.old" admin?
