have bona fide copy of windows 10 pro , have been running insider preview version time. following pc upgrades i'm being told need "install new build of windows now", ownership of copy of windows isn't recognised , i'm expected buy new copy of windows before pc run properly. any suggestions?
what did upgrades pc entail?
i'll bet happened hardware changed enough windows 10 no longer recognizes same device installed on. solution know of run activation troubleshooter, , see if can solve problem.
background:
unlike past versions of windows, w10 scans system it's on determine hardware configuration, , generates hash code system. can make limited changes peripherals (like hard drive) without hash changing, if of hardware gets changed hash change, , w10 think it's on different system...hence activation trouble , why it's telling buy new copy (it's anti-pirating measure). happens if motherboard gets changed, i've seen happen changes other onboard peripherals too.
