17063: Recovery Drive Creator App - Microsoft Community

it seems nonsensical me in day , age of multi-terabyte hard drives, terabyte ssd's, , 128 gigabyte plus usb thumb drives have recovery drive creator cannot limit reasonable sized partition on of afore mentioned drives, must instead wipe entire host drive, eke out , format it's own tiny partition , leave rest of entire drive unallocated...partitions intact, wiped , unallocated. 

case in point...my testbed has 750gb system sata3 drive build of week , docs, apps, etc.  there second 150gb sata2 drive also.  used organized storage of ms software, iso's, 3rd party software etc. needed rebuild in case of needed wipe , clean install of system drive , recreating os again was.   anyway, little geek angel whispered in ear might idea copy storage folders second partition 128gb thumb drive have, did....before ran recovery drive creator.  yes.  warn drive erased...but...the creator popped right both partitions choose from, highlighted recovery partition.  looked , felt little better thinking maybe tech writer used drive , meant partition after all.  hit next.  took forever.  completed successfully.  recovery drive (partition) listed in 'this pc' @ 32gb created recovery drive , named 'recovery'.  storage drive (partition) missing 'this pc'.  found in computer management, partition intact sized, marked unallocated....toast.

i posted suggestion in fbh re-write program target partitions instead of whole drives.  can't imagine how po'ed going when blithely use program , format whole hard drive, ssd, or large multi partitioned usb thumb drive or external drive.  mad?  no.  took chance.  have whole rice bowl full of usb thumb drives, 4, 8, , 16gb in size, they're tied installers, iso's , bootable tools.

am 1 thinks recovery drive creator should made more realistic , flexible?  idea can see , write hard drives usb drives , thumb drives.  don"t demands entire drive, no matter which.  seems half-baked.  fbh post at https://aka.ms/gloait.  folks think?

lots of thumbdrives in wild 32gb partitions & people saying things like, how come formatted 64gb drive , 32gb now. 

reminds me need search zip lock baggy full of usb drives , find larger 1 dont need put win10 iso on bootable repair functions & see if file history accept location too.
