How to Auto-Open Specific Files Types downloaded in Edge - Microsoft Community

i've been going , forth between using edge , chrome since extensions added edge.  edge , keep giving chance, missing feature pulls me chrome. 

1 of missing features ability have downloaded file types open automatically.  in chrome, when download file, gives option automatically open specific file type future downloads.  option useful, things torrent files, document types, etc.  file download intend open in program.  best example can think of torrent file.  use torrents manage massive collection of concert audience recordings (100% legal, allowed band , not copywrited) downloading new ones seed our user base.

know 1 click, want able click link , have automatically open torrent client.  main thing keeps me using edge more couple days @ time.  go chrome , don't touch edge months.

in internet explorer days, there registry key edit (hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\shell\attachmentexecute\{0002df01-0000-0000-c000-000000000046}), automatically launch specified file types once download completed. well not work in edge , there no options in of settings accomplish task.

have solution missing?  searched community google & bing , found dozens of people same question, not single answer problem.  unfortunately, if cannot find solution, end going chrome, again.  excited start testing edge ios app, history , bookmarks synced/shared between pc , phone (like chrome).  granted bookmarks not syncing reason, beta , i'm sure fixed sooner rather later.  without feature, coupled lack of synchronization between phone , pc browser, fear using chrome fulltime.

anyway, sorry long post!

tl:dr; there way make microsoft edge automatically open specific file types download?  there dozens of people same question not single answer!  there new registry key allows this, similar 1 allowed in ie?

the option microsoft edge has notify want file, once you've downloaded it. let our developers hear voice. encourage submit feedback using feedback hub. can either vote on existing submission or submit new feedback. gather additional details , information concern when submit feedback item. feedback items regularly receive microsoft responses on submissions in feedback app. please revisit frequently, see status of feedback items.

in order submit new feedback, kindly follow these steps:

1. on windows 10 device, search "feedback hub" in cortana search, launch app.
2. navigate feedback in left menu, press + add new feedback.
   
3. select problem, , share details think relevant, , choose appropriate category , subcategory.
4. important: if possible, reproduce problem(s) after clicking begin monitoring (or start capture) near end of form; stop monitoring when you're done.
5. once you've completed form , monitoring, click submit.
6. click continue using feedback hub.
7. click my feedback @ top, find item submitted (it may take while appear).
8. open item submitted, click share.
9. click copy link, paste link here in response (it this: https://aka.ms/<unique link>).
