IE does not close, causing memory leaks - Microsoft Community


internet explorer v11.540.15063 cascading processes

when loading ie, , loading additional sites using “tabs” option, seems problem ie not closing expected. occurring when browser closed, internet explorer processes not close.

steps reproduce:

make note, these steps in general , not display exact same results, can seen problem ms ie not closing complete.

  1. launch ie

  2. visit site, link on page, right-button click link , select open new tab

  3. repeat step 2 several times load addition tabs different pages.

  4. launch task manager , view processes or details

  5. observed , make note of instances of ie processes running.

  6. go ie , close browser close x top right corner

  7. allow browser close, navigate task manager , observe ie processes.

results:

the processes did not close. navigate task manager/details , notice ie tags. on both tabs, “processes/details”, ie continues loaded, yet, browser has closed gui stand point.

expected:

when closing browser, task manager should display 1 instance, if of ie process.

concern/comment:

after seeing on past several months, thinking @ ms catch bug, issue continues latest updates.

question:

am 1 notices this? when memory resources taken , not relinquished, causes issues overall performance of system.

workaround solution:

open task manager, locate ie process, right-button click select end task. repeat each instance of ie.

note:

this not occur firefox, chrome or edge. each browser, 10 tabs loaded , each browser, task manager had indicated browser process did exit correctly. the ie processes remained.

2. did computer come win10 preinstalled, did you clean install of win10, or did upgrade win7 computer or win8.1 computer [<=pick one!] to win10?

3. manufactured computer (e.g., dell; hp; acer; lenovo; asus)?

4. has norton application or mcafee application ever been installed on computer since bought it?

5. have ever run norton removal tool and/or mcafee consumer products removal tool?

6. version & os build of windows 10 is installed?

  • press & hold windows key , press the r key. in the run dialog, type winver , press the enter key.
