16215, 16226, 16232 and now 16237 have ALL failed - Time to sell any - Microsoft Community

ok, avoid thought i'm novice here, i've on 4 decades of experience pcs since days of cp/m , been "insider" beginning.

not 1 of "updates" since 16199, 16215 16226 16232 , latest 16237, has succeeded on test platform.... occasional hiccup, platform able way through "upgrade", update, process way 16199..... that's when sadly fell apart!!

please don't wasting of time offering advice or making suggestions, i've tried that's been posted here, , more, bare drive reinstallations going 14393, , nothing has resulted in successful update. appreciate test platform is, me, aging intel core2 duo, 8gb ram, asus p5n32-e sli plus motherboard (with non-eufi bios , has nvidia chipset , 10 years old) and, finally, nvidia gpu - gt710 of 2016 vintage still supported. however, no amount of running sfc, dism, restores, refreshes, deleting c:\$windows.~bt and c:\windows\softwaredistribution, update troubleshooter, attempts install dvd isos (even downloaded microsoft 15063.0 not install on bare drive while esd created iso of 14393 does), using usbs created using rufus, iso images (dvds or mounted) created using uuptoiso etc. etc. etc. fix problem update process!

the problem i'm unlikely alone when fall update released many other windows users who happily, , without problem, upgraded 7 10 without issues... will find platform is, @ best, unable accept updates, or @ worst, rendered unusable!!

if had any, i'd sell shares in microsoft before fall update released general public - i've said in other posts looks disaster waiting happen.

that said, in frustration these repeated failures, attempted update more recent (5+ year old) production platform (using cloned ssd) , succeeded .. phew!!!

there 2 issues here:

1 may suffering issues resolved before public release - first 9 insider previews since last public release 6 not usable on younger, aging surface pro 2. since things have settled down. next update looks reasonably significant 1 major changes uwp, security , languages etc. perhaps settle down or aspects rollover till next update?

2 each , every 6 monthly release may result in computers based on ancient components (or middle aged ones) not being able install latest upgrade. nothing different @ time in last forty plus years. has changed upgrade frequency.

all means windows upgrade process needs have controls it;

a. advises people old set-ups update not install before far this, plus

b. stable , reliable roll-backs on failed installs clear information on why failed offending bit can removed/replaced etc (even if whole computer).
