Excel crashed, work lost, file won't re-open!!!

i saving file, when excel crashed. i've found temp file starting with ~$

i've tried renaming deleting last x in xlsx, no luck.

i've tried unzipping doesn't seem work.

the file doesn't appear in open files.

i'm running, os x, 10.13 excel version 15.39

to prevent situation occurring again, can turn on auto save feature.
