Question about Queries and "Retained Memory" - Microsoft Community

i engineer, , infrequent user of access.  can results seeking lot of trial , error.

i noticed following behavior , explanation of going on.

i have table -- table 1.  based on table 1, created query (query a) lets me arrange , select records in table 1 of interest me. both table 1 , query contain same number of records -- 45,000 records -- unless use criteria select subset of table 1's records.

i created query, query b, based on query , couple of other tables, table 2 , table 3.  query b has 34005 records, , can tell query b not giving results had hoped for.

in effort trouble shoot query b, revised query using selection criteria reduce number of records given query -- 41 records.  however, saved revised query under same name, "query a."  (i feel sure not practice, did.)

i not sure expected happen query b.  however, did happen query b did not change,  still has 34005 records.  however, underlying query partially based on has 41 records, not original 45,000 records.

it appears me query b "retains memory" of original query on based, rather use updated query a.

question:

can explain me going on?  how query b retain knowledge of query was, rather update query is?

if wanted query b update query is, how make happen?

thanks

first off... data not stored in queries, in tables. i'm guessing queryb refers actual tables, not (current state of) querya.

that said, open both queries in sql view , copy , paste sql text message here? query grid tool build sql, real query. if can see queries should able diagnose what's going on.
