Excel 2016 crashes when I change type of chart - Microsoft Community

hello,

my problem started on august 13 after windows/office update.

i create new workbook default template, (i tried different templates), insert data, create chart, right-click, "change chart type", excel crashes. dialog appear missing buttons of "okay" , "cancel", crashes after changing.

i thought it's excel installation, reinstalled office, didn't work. reinstalled windows 10, didn't work. thought maybe it's hard drive issue bad sectors, bought new hard drive. now, i'm running on new ssd drive, fresh windows 10 enterprise installation, latest updates, office professional plus 2016, tried updates , without updates, nothing helps.

i moved ssd different machine, thinking motherboard/cpu/memory, didn't work.

adding charts embedded in word, worked fine. it's related charts inside excel 2016.

the crash consistent, reproducible , fatal!

hello,

here tip assist microsoft identify problem , solve it, , solution still suffering us.

if install latest windows 10 enterprise 1703, latest office professional plus 2016, problem persist no matter hardware change.

however, dark reason, if install following windows 10:

1511 windows 10 enterprise - iso x20-82280

then let updated until reaches latest windows updates, install office professional plus 2016, latest (as of today), problem , crashes disappear.

i can't figure out why installing 1511 windows , updating fixes problem, , installing 1703 windows doesn't fix problem, leave microsoft engineers find out differences between 2 processes.

meanwhile, our problem solved, , hope future windows installations/updates wouldn't override in 1511, can continue working without problem.

blessings.
