Can't Activate Office - Microsoft Community

cannot activate new online purchase of office.  message "product not associated email." wtf?  how around this?

first time activation require series of process, , possible missed 1 of steps. out activation office, we'd know following:

• did purchase office directly microsoft store online?
  
• which version of office trying activate?
• have redeemed product key before attempting activate office?
• when getting error message?
• have try logging office.com/myaccount verify if you're using correct microsoft account associated office?
