I'm having a horrible time RE-installing Word 2016 and Excel 2016. - Microsoft Community
05-05-2017 -- purchased new dell laptop computer windows 10 via staples.com.
wasn't sure if going keep laptop didn't purchase ms word , excel 2016 @ first; downloaded , installed 30-day trial office 365.
about week later, decided keep dell laptop , buy word 2016 , excel 2016.
i did not uninstall office 365 (this big mistake!).

"your office 365 home subscription expire on tuesday, june 06, 2017. avoid possible interruption of service, please renew subscription tuesday, june 06, 2017."
ignored email because had purchased , installed word 2016 , excel 2016 , assumed no longer using office 365 application(s).
06-06-2017 -- whenever opened word or excel, i'd message along lines of, "subscription expired keep using word without interruption, please reactivate now."
continued ignoring these messages because thought they'd go away @ point.
~06-14-2017 -- tired of "subscription expired" notices, uninstalled office 365.
after uninstalling office 265, when opened word 2016, got message, "product notice of features of word have been disabled because product requires update" , title notes "unlicensed product."
when clicked on update button, nothing happened.
when clicked on manage account button, edge opened ms office 365 home page (i guess) re-subscribe to/pay office 365.
07-15-2017 -- uninstalled microsoft excel 2016 via control panel.
uninstalled microsoft word 2016 via control panel.
restarted computer.
opened control panel confirm office 265, word 2016, , excel 2016 not listed.
opened original email microsoft contains link , product key word 2016. clicked on "download item now."
after installing, restarted computer.
opened word 2016 , got same "product notice of features of word..."
pretty sure installing excel 2016 give me same message.
i uninstalled , reinstalled few times. 1 time, got message, "this product key has been used." yes, used first time installed on may 17.
what can do? paid both programs. have product keys both products.
yes, basic problem many copies of unactivated programs. there factory trial of 365. may have been replaced downloaded trial, or may not, installed word , excel. yes, actiation system thoroughly confused setup @ point.
in general, have cleanup installed office programs before starting over.

method 1: uninstall control panel
method 2: uninstall using fix it
note: if using 64-bit operating system, save fixit tool on system , run saved location.
method 3: remove manually
word has long history of requiring frequent re-installs “fix issues”. therefore long ago designed make uninstall/re-install “painless”. they not removing everything. control panel uninstall leaves various “configuration” files (like normal.dotm) , registry entries behind picked next word/office install. if problem in these configuration settings carried over. “fix it” tool in method 2 wipes out everything
boot computer before doing re-install
note: 1 user reported still having problems after running documented uninstall. recommendation after doing delete:
- open command window administrator
- paste following command:
sc.exe delete officesvc - run it
they reported fixed uninstall problem

note: before uninstall, if have “office 2013” bundle make sure have 25 character product key. if have “office 365”, make sure can access myaccount page:
#2 go control panel confirm office programs gone.
#3 go c:\ drive , in "program files" , "program files (x86)" see if there remaining office folders , files. if there are, delete them all
#4 restart computer
#5 install , activate 1 program
#6 install , actiavte othe.
if doesn't work, suspect going have resort brute force , reset / refresh windows. make sure backup personal data files before doing that!
note, going have log in myaccount site email address install of program activated. should able submit prodcut key other program in there. go page detailed instructions on installing , activating through myaccount site
ps: don't understand why went standalone word , excel. have bought home , student, or home , business same price , had several more programs available when needed.
