Office Applications like Excel and Word 2016 not launching, splash - Microsoft Community

ok, i've solved 1 figured i'd post in public domain threw me bit , inconvenient.

a user not run office applications. when launched excel, word, powerpoint or tried opening file splash screen come up, the  secondary 'recent files' screen show far , disappear. outlook had been working fine since had logged in when closed that, started doing same thing.

they not start in safe mode either.

this system had 5 users on 2016 rds server hosted in azure. other users of system fine thought installation should fundamentally ok. delete user profile , rebuild it, have been bit painful.

solution:  had 2 days earlier changed trial license of office365 enterprise e5. when trial expired bought office365 enterprise e3 , applied users , e5 trial license had been removed. found though license had been applied user, feature check option within license office proplus set off. when switched on affected user able start office applications normally. license issue.

i found same users and, although 1 user affected, think in time other users have been affected applications rechecked license. there no warning or banner showing product un-licensed, closed application.

hopefully microsoft find out , tidy applications tell you not licensed product.
