Excel 16.0.4266.1001 (x86) Crashing Upon "File > Save - Microsoft Community

hi, all.

i've seen threads hint around topic, don't seem drive @ heart of it, figured i'd go ahead , post new one.

i running excel 16.0.4266.1001 (x86) on windows 10 machine (home, version 1709, os build 16299.64).  noticed anytime attempt save file using "save as" option (either file --> save or through "save as" option on quick access toolbar, doesn't matter), excel crashes.  recent development; may accompanied fall creators update of windows 10, though cannot sure.  can don't remember happening prior that, that's not definitive.

it doesn't matter if it's file that's been updated million times or if it's freshly-opened workbook has absolutely nothing in it.  if i'm opening existing workbook intent of making changes , re-saving in other location, occurs regardless of source/location of original file (local hard disk, nas, etc.).

i have seen, on other threads, there specific things listed helpful know, here are:

  • when did start experiencing issue?  previously discussed
  • are getting error messages when excel file crashes?  microsoft excel has stopped working (hang on while windows reports problem microsoft), followed first attempt @ recovery , restart, then, upon subsequent "save as" crash, option debug or close program.
  • did make changes computer or excel application before problem started?  only updated pc discussed above, , updated ms excel through native windows update included windows 10.
  • have tried updating windows?  yes, consistently kept up-to-date, , pc up-to-date of time of thread's posting.
  • what's excel file format of files crashing?  i work *.xlsx , *.xlsm files, advent of attempting use "save as" function new, blank workbook, don't think answer question contributory.

i checked event log generated following latest crash, , found following 2 entries (copied directly text event viewer, , manually redacted indicated -- sorry vertical length of all):
